Lesley Hubbell-Fleming

In a long Port Huron tradition of outstanding women’s tennis players, Lesley Hubbell-Fleming stands out among the very best.

Putting in her time and effort as a regular of the Port Huron Tennis House courts, Lesley worked day after day on her skills there. This paid off in a big way.

First, there were many championships in Port Huron’s Robinson Tournament. Those, along with her high school record and United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournament success led to a USTA national ranking in ages 12-18 that earned Lesley invitations to USTA national tournaments across the country.

Lesley’s high school record was nothing short of outstanding. She played #1 Singles all four years at Port Huron Northern from 1988 to 1991 on very talented teams. Over that time, she compiled a 100 win and 17 loss record while competing against some of the best players in the state. This achievement resulted in many league, tournament, and state MVP awards. She earned All-League (EML, MAC) regional and All-State recognition and was twice anmed the Times Herald Blue Water Player of the Year.

Lesley competed in over 20 invitational tournaments, conferences and state championships and received many top tournament player awards. She was named to several All-Academic teams and was a member of the Port Huron Northern National Honor Society, holding the position of President her senior year. Lesley was also named a “Who’s Who Among American High School Students.”

Lesley’s hard work and effort paid off by receiving a full four-year athletic scholarship to Purdue University. As a freshman at Purdue, Lesley competed at #1 Doubles and #5 Singles. Although a shoulder injury in her sophomore year ended her competitive tennis career, she still received Academic All-Big Ten honors in 1994 and 1995.
