Pete Woods
Year Inducted: 2007
Pete began his coaching career at Lake City High School in 1963 as head track coach, head basketball coach and assistant varsity football coach. His track teams finished second in the state in 1964 and 1965 and third in 1966.
He was hired into the Port Huron Area School District by Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame inductees Bob Hayes, Brick Fowler and Jim Bates and moved to Port Huron Northern High School in the fall of 1966. Pete became the head coach for track and field and junior varsity football. He retired after 28 consecutive years as head coach of track and field at PHN, in 1994.
Blessed with many outstanding assistant coaches and talented athletes, his teams compiled a dual meet record of 179 wins and 79 losses, 8 undefeated seasons and 26 consecutive dual meet wins from 1990 to 1993. Pete had 49 team championships, 17 league championships and 3 Class “A” regional championships. His teams also had 29 invitational championship runner-ups.
Pete was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1991at the University of Michigan and into the Michigan High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2002 at Central Michigan University.
He currently lives in Port Huron with his wife, Nancy. They have three children and five grandchildren. Pete is a Sales Representative for the Aluminum Athletic Equipment Company located in Royersford, Pennsylvania.
