1949 Port Huron High School Basketball Team

Year Inducted: 1980

Eastern Michigan League Champions with a 14-3 record. Winners over Van Dyke, Mt. Clemens and Grosse Pointe in the Regionals. Conquerors of Hamtramck and Detroit Catholic Central in the Quarter and Semi-Finals. Coach Reed Laughlin's Big Reds had to whip powerful Kalamazoo Central to bring the State Class "A" title to Port Huron. A valiant effort failed, however, as Kazoo won 64-50 and the Big Reds finished the season with a 19-4 record. The #2 spot in the finals is the highest ever reached by any team in Port Huron basketball history.
