Al Hairston - Basketball, Baseball - Coach

Year Inducted: 1994

An All-EML selection at Mt. Clemens High School, Al started a great winning tradition at the then Port Huron Junior College, leading the Skippers to a fine 21 – 1 season and a Michigan Community College Athletic Conference Championship.  Al was an All-conference selection both years and scored a record 1147 points during his tenure at the local college, averaging 29.8 points per game during his sophomore year to finish fifth in the nation.

Al moved on to Bowling Green University, leading the Falcons to the Mid-American Conference Title under the tutelage of Bill Fitch, current coach of the Houston Rockets.  Hairston played one year with the Seattle Supersonics of the NBA.

A complete ball player, Al led the team in assists and played outstanding defense.  During Al’s senior year at Bowling Green, he also achieved the Dean’s List.  An outstanding, all-round athlete, Al was also named All-Conference for baseball while attending SC4.

Al works in Seattle, Washington now and had several successful seasons as coach of the Seattle Central Community College basketball team.
