Ernie Albert

In 1971 two good friends, Ernie Albert and Erik Parker, decided to coach a Pee Wee hockey team in the Port Huron Minor Hockey Association House League. That began a long run of many years, most of them with Ernie as head coach of the Port Huron Star Oilers, a Squirt (ages 10-11) AA travel team. Ernie's coaching career spanned 25 years and resulted in 16 consecutive district championships, eight regular season league championships, and champion runners-up in Silver Stick and Michigan State finals. In 1991 the Oilers had a 52-10-7 rcord and won the North American Silver Stick championship in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. In 1992 with a 51-8-5 record, the Oilers won the State of Michigan Tournament in Allen Park.

Ernie positively affected hundreds of youngsters between 1972 and 2000, instilling in them strong character and good sportsmanship. Ernie and his wife Judy reside in Port Huron.
