George A. Lyon - Sailing

The sailing career of George A. Lyon began in 1964 at the age of 48. He had spent two years restoring his 30-square metre, Typhoon. In 1966 he purchased a New York '32 Tigress. Again racing a one design boat, George was winning many local races in 1968. The first Trans Superior Race was held in 1969 from Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan to Duluth, Minnesota. George placed first. In 1973 George purchased a new Tigress, a fiberglass standfast '40. George continued to race locally as a member of Port Huron Yacht Club and enjoyed many victories. He has sailed in 26 Mackinac Races.
