Joe Lasher

Joseph J. Lasher, 66 of Kimball Township, was born in San Diego, CA on March 2, 1957. After moving to Michigan, he began his running career competing in track and cross country for
Marysville High School from 1973 to 1975. He began running long distance in the early 1980’s, has run nearly 90,000 miles and has competed in approximately 1,350 races from the 5K
distance to the marathon and ultra-marathon, since 1984.


Joe was particularly adept at the 26.2-mile marathon distance having completed 90 races both locally and around the country with a PR time best of 2:35:13. He continues his racing streak of
39 Detroit Free Press Marathons and in 1990 he placed 13 th overall. For 10 years he was cited as one of the top 100 marathoners in Michigan. He has also run the Boston Marathon three times along with competing in the Chicago Marathon, Disney Marathon and Marine Corps Marathon in Washington D.C.

Closer to home Joe competed in 15 Scotty Hanton Marathons, coming in first place in the 1994 race. He also received 12 Larry Kearns Memorial awards for being the top St. Clair County finisher in the Hanton event.

Other personal records Joe has established include: 5K 16:35, 4 mile 21:30, 5 mile 27:23, 10K 33:58, 10 mile 58:25, and half-marathon 1:16:48. He has raced in the Canton, OH Hall of Fame half-marathon where he was first in his age group, and has also raced the Ragnor “Sofa Kings” Road Race along with the Ragnor Trail T.B.S.N.


Even today at age 66 Joe continues his weekly running regimen of 50 to 60 miles a week and participates in 20 to 30 races of varying distances each year. He’s a member of the St. Clair
Running Club, Cros-Lex Running Club, Thumb Area Running Club, and the Elite Feet Running Club.
