James "Bubbles" Harris

Year Inducted: 1988

“Bubbles” starred in basketball at SC4 during the 1967-68 and 1968-69 seasons.  He came to Port Huron upon graduation from Admiral King High School in Lorain, Ohio, where he was voted “Ohio High School Player of the Year” and considered one of the top 40 players nationwide.

Scoring 1311 points at SC4, he led the Skippers, under Coach Sam Kromer, to a 54-6 record and conference championships both years.  995 single season points and 48 single game points are among the many SC4 records he established.   He was also chosen All-Conference, All-Region XII and First Team All-American.

“Bubbles” went on to Indiana University, where he received the Governor’s Award as the Most Valuable Player in his junior year, and led the team in scoring with 434 points, and 18.1 point per game average.  A 6’10”, 175 lb. guard, he teamed with well-known George McGinnis, who went on to professional basketball.
