Larry Manz

Year Inducted: 2006

Larry played high school baseball, basketball and tennis. He played guard on the 1945 Southeastern High School basketball team that beat McKenzie High School 19-28 for the Detroit City Championship (Detroit teams were not allowed in state tournaments then). He then played football for two years at the University of Toledo. Because of transfer rules, he could not play for Michigan State University from which he graduated in 1950. He played on the Meinhardt Oldsmobile team that won the Class "A" fast-pitch state championship in 1956.

He earned a bronze star while serving in the US Army in Korea.

Larry played recreational softball in Port Huron. He became the athletic director of the Port Huron area schools. Aware of scholastic problems with hockey players on travel teams, Larry, and Morris Snider brought high school hockey to the Port Huron Schools in 1974. Although retired, Larry still runs high school hockey and the Blue Water high school hockey tournament. We are fortunate that Larry and his wife, Dodie, made Port Huron their home.
