Wm. Henry "Watty" Watkins

William H. “Watty” Watkins moved to Port Huron, Michigan from Canada in 1883. He played one year in the big leagues in 1884 in Indianapolis and then managed big league teams in Detroit, Kansas City, St. Louis and Pittsburgh from 1885 – 1899. His Detroit team captured the championship from the St. Louis Brownies in 1887. He was instrumental in forming Minor League Pro teams in Port Huron from 1921 – 1926 with games played at the field named for him, Watkins Field at 24th Street and Moak Street in Port Huron.
